AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC)
AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER
PRESS STATEMENT
for immediate release
REBUTTAL TO GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S FALSE CLAIM OF 95% OF THE PEOPLE BEING IN SUPPORT OF PRESIDENT TINUBU’S SECOND TERM BID.
In a recent public statement, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno is quoted to have made a reckless statement that 95% of Akwa Ibom people will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid. This last reckless statement of the governor is one too many. How did the governor arrive at his imaginary percentage?
The reality on ground is the exact opposite. Is it a greater number of Akwa Ibom people who are angry, frustrated, and disillusioned by the combined failures of the Tinubu-led federal government and the Umo Eno-led visionless and overtly corrupt administration? The people are not celebrating governance; they are enduring hunger, hardship, neglect and in impecunious coma.
Under the watch of Governor Umo Bassey Eno, hunger has been weaponized as a tool of social control which has boomerang against the civilian junta. Sadly, the governor has become disconnected from the reality. Believably the governor was talking from this realm.
CLAMPDOWN ON DISSENT:
Governor Umo Eno has added a new feather of infamy to his cap. Recently, the police which has now become a tool of political enforcement, on the orders of the governor, has penned down some named persons in Akwa Ibom State who disagrees with Government, for illegal arrest or maybe abduction.
One Princess Godsown Udoito, a community right activist has been abducted by the police on the orders of Governor Umo Eno, detained and refused access to his lawyers and family members, and was secretly arraigned and remanded in correctional facility at Uyo on 15/1/2026 without bail or a return date for trial. It is clear that this Idi Amin style Government wants to put her out of circulation for posing genuine questions to power.
Princess Udoito’s only crime is that she asked questions for clarification about the suspected fraudulent expropriation of her people’s ancestral lands by top government officials in favour of foreign and local investors who are believed to be pocketing the proceeds derived therefrom against the property rights of landowners.
REPRESION OF THE PRESS:
The Umo Eno’s administration is clamping down on free press. About 3 days ago, Veritas Radio, an online radio platform was crashed and pulled down under suspicious circumstances after criticizing the Umo Eno’s administration and questioning some perceived inappropriate dealings with private lands at Eket.
Equally speaking, the internet link to the Akwa Ibom State Budget was suddenly pulled down 3 days ago after a journalist, Peters Buhari questioned what appeared to be inappropriate and questionable entries in the budget.
ADC Akwa Ibom State chapter therefore invites Amnesty International, human rights organizations, activists and the international community to declare Akwa Ibom State “a state of particular concern in human rights violation.*
The ADC Akwa Ibom chapter also calls on the international business community to be wary of the fraudulent activities of the Akwa Ibom State Government concerning land fraud including fraudulent misrepresentation of facts on legal status of land in the state particularly the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve to the Federal Government of Nigeria, local and foreign investors.
QUESTIONABLE MoU WITH INTERAF GROUP.
On 12/1/2026, the governor signed a MOU in respect of Ibom Deep Seaport in Esit Eket Local Government Area. However, checks by an investigative journalist revealed that INTAREF Group was incorporated on 22 December 2025 and just about weeks latter the baby company won a multi-billion Ibom Deep Seaport contract without evidence of previous expertise and experience in seaport technology.
This underlies the insincerity of the Umo Eno-led Administration against which no citizen must question or else he/she will be abducted and locked up. The Ibom Deep Seaport story is nothing but a usual second term gimmick.
Signed:
Barr. Manfred Ekpe.
